大杂院中来自外省与本省的居民互相扶持，拾荒者石三泰对孤女小珠疼爱有加，虽然生活贫困，但两人感情深厚，情同亲生父女，过着甜蜜满足的生活。本片为李行导演首次执导的国语电影，也是后来‘健康写实’电影风潮的先驱，片中每一个小人物都充满了写实的刻画，而当时淳朴热心的市井小民，就如影片中一般在街头巷尾过着互助勤勉的简单生活。

李仲明（张伐 饰）本是一名小学教师，却因为战乱失去了工作，流落到上海。身无分文无家可归的他在三轮车夫朱老五（张雁 饰）的劝说之下也去骑起了三轮车，他的踏实肯干吸引了车行老板孙金娥的注意，让她坠入了情网之中。 一次偶然之中，李仲明邂逅了名叫赵淑秋（黄宗英 饰）的年轻女教师，惺惺相惜的两人之间很快就产生了好感，这令孙金娥十分的伤心。然而，因为李仲明和赵淑秋之间的社会身份相差巨大，这段恋情很快就惹来了闲话无数。最终，赵淑秋因此丢掉了工作和住所，善良的李仲明答应让赵淑秋住进了自己的家里，但两人之间依然是清白的。

朱六姑霸占了张家的物业，张四根并不知情前来投靠六姑。六姑逼迫凤去偷取地契，后来发现根并没有地契，便将他赶走。六姑打算把凤卖给富豪，根和德通过骗财的方式想替凤赎身，没想到骗到了六姑之女，二人因此被打。混乱之中，德发现了地契，根最终夺回了物业产权，还与凤结为夫妻。

Andreas Hübner is an unfriendly official who interviews immigrants wishing to stay in Germany. One morning an Adolf Hitler moustache appears on his face. All efforts to remove the fascist identifier fail and Andreas ends up alone in a field asking God for help. The answer arrives in the shape of a yoghurt carton with a 1945 sell-by-date.

A young woman asks her brother to videotape her confession. The brother thinks this is all a joke and unnecessarily ridiculous. The woman nevertheless insists on proceeding on telling on tape what she's been hiding to her family including her brother all along. She is coming out.

Lewis, a gay writer of romantic novels, writes an article on gay issues under the pseudonym of "Zippy Grimes." The reason for this is that he hasn't come out yet and he doesn't want to alienate his mainly female fan-base. The article is a great success and leads to a huge amount of reactions, mainly from other gay men who are leading a double life. He decides to meet a number of these letter writers and eventually is forced to come out.
